One of THR’s greatest assets is that it is directly rail-served. The Ohio Central Railroad delivers railcars directly onto THR’s 6,000 foot long rail spur. Once on THR’s track, the THR locomotive moves loaded railcars into the rail unloading building. In 15 minutes or less, up to 100 tons of waste is unloaded from each railcar. THR has one of only two enclosed rail unloading buildings, Sunny Farms being the second, within the State of Ohio, and has the only certified state-of-the-art rail scale at an Ohio landfill.
Since the Ohio Central Railroad is serviced by the CSX and Norfolk Southern railroads, there are very few locations that cannot be serviced by THR.
For THR’s local customers, trucks are quickly processed over its truck scales. Most trucks are unloaded and leave the landfill within 15 minutes of arrival.

Specialty Waste
Specialty waste is any waste material which, because of its physical characteristics, chemical makeup, or biological nature requires either special handling procedures and/or permitting, or poses an unusual threat to human health, equipment, property, or the environment. SFL can accept many types of specialty wastes. A waste profile and supporting analyticals must be submitted in advance.
For customer convenience, download our Waste Profile Form.

Operations
The Tunnel Hill Reclamation Landfill offers solid waste services and is directly rail-served, with over 6,000 feet of track on-site. The landfill maintains sufficient equipment on-site to move and unload up to 50 railcars per shift. The landfill is eligible for twice-daily service from the Ohio Central Railroad short line and can be accessed by all of the major Class 1 railroads.
Rail Accuracy
THR has the only set of certified state of the art rail scales in the waste business in Ohio. This means that entire railcars can be weighed at once (which is quicker than other methods) and customers only pay for product actually removed from railcars and placed in the active landfill.
Rail Security
THR has one of only two permitted and enclosed railcar unloading facilitates in the State of Ohio. Railcars are pushed underneath an overhead platform, where CAT grapples unload the cars into shuttle trucks that go directly to the active landfill face. This system of railcar unloading (compared with unloading from the side) reduces railcar damage and allows our railcars to be more efficiently cleaned out.
